Entries Sought for International Council

Association of the Arts Competition
Dear Members of Epsilon Sigma Alpha,
I hope you will consider submitting at least one
Association of the Arts entry for IC in July.
It is not too soon to start making plans, in fact, now
is a great time before all the business of errands, trips, packing,
etc., for your State Conventions begin, and (hopefully) plans to attend
IC in Minnesota!
How wonderful it would be if we had submissions from
every State (and Country, Australia!) and even more wonderful it would be
if YOUR state won the big award, for having the MOST entries! This is
something ESA members can do to let your talents shine. Everyone has
SOMETHING that they do well. Come on, you know it’s true. Just take a
few minutes to think about what that might be, if you are not already
aware. Look over the entry form at the different categories. There’s
something there for you.
This year’s form can be obtained by going to
www.esaintl.com then clicking on “IC”. From
there, click on “Forms”. Association of the Arts is the first one you
will come to. If you need me to send a hard copy, just let me know. If
you need more information or guidance, again, just let me know.

"Kids Helping
Kids" -- Zeta Alpha ESA has been sponsoring a penny drive at their
local lower and upper elementary schools for the past 5 years and this
past year they collected over $3200 for St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital. This is their primary fund raiser. They call it "Kids Helping
Kids". They've tried bike-athons, skate-athons and all sorts of other
projects, but this one yields the most and is the easiest to do. Any
chapter interested in trying this event in their community can contact
Zeta Alpha member Janet Hampton at --
jeh9862@sbcglobal.net
.
Here's how they
do it:
1. Pick a month
and theme. (They use a spring month and set the event for a week)
2. Contact proper
school authorities for permission and set dates according to school
calendar.
3. Utilize fund
raising materials from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
4. Use 2 days
sometime prior to the event to prepare flyers for teachers and parents
explaining the event. Provide each faculty member with flyer (1 week
prior) and each child (Friday prior)
5. On Thursday
prior to the event, place student flyers and containers for collecting
pennies in each classroom (our faculty have centrally located message
boxes) -- they use quart jars for collection and decorate them with
current year’s theme (i.e. frogs--We Leap for St. Jude's Kids, hearts--We
Love St. Jude's, etc)
6. On final day
collect containers and the following day count $$$. They have found that
weighing the pennies works best 3lbs equals $5.00. They all get together
on Saturday morning and have a ball counting and visiting.
